Multi-car discount
A price cut for insuring two or more vehicles with the same company, usually on one policy, applied to each car's premium.
Also called: multi-vehicle discount, multiple car discount
A multi-car discount lowers your premium when you insure more than one vehicle with the same insurer, usually on a single policy. Most insurers apply it to every car on the policy, and many extend it to vehicles owned by people in the same household. Progressive, for example, says its multi-car discount averages 12% (as of October 2026).
Here is how it adds up. Say two cars would cost $1,000 and $900 a year insured separately. A 10% multi-car discount brings the total from $1,900 to $1,710, a saving of $190 (hypothetical figures). Insurers usually require the vehicles to be kept at the same address and owned by the named insured or a household member; some also count a car you insure with them on a separate policy.
The discount rewards putting everything with one company, but that is not always the cheapest arrangement. A household with a young driver or an expensive car occasionally pays less overall by insuring vehicles with different companies, so compare the combined price with separate quotes. Check how it interacts with bundling your home or renters policy, since the discounts usually stack. See the multi-car discount: how it works and who qualifies and multi-policy discount.
