Overview

Oklahoma Farm Bureau Insurance, branded OKFB Insurance, is the insurance arm of the Oklahoma Farm Bureau, the farm and ranch organization founded by Oklahoma agricultural families in 1942. Its lead company, Oklahoma Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company, and subsidiary AgSecurity Insurance Company make up the Oklahoma Farm Bureau Group, which ranked #96 among U.S. private passenger auto insurers by 2025 direct premiums written, with $148.8 million and a 0.04% market share, according to NAIC market share data. AM Best describes it as the largest domestic insurer in Oklahoma and the leader in the state's farm and ranch market.

OKFB Insurance sells only in Oklahoma. It writes personal auto, farm auto, motorcycle, boat and RV coverage, homeowners and renters policies, farm and ranch packages, crop insurance and small-business policies, with life insurance through an affiliated Farm Bureau life company. Agents work from offices in all 77 Oklahoma counties. To buy an OKFB policy you must join the Oklahoma Farm Bureau; the annual membership also brings discounts and services unrelated to insurance.

History

Oklahoma farm and ranch families organized the Oklahoma Farm Bureau in 1942. Members soon decided that auto insurance was the service rural Oklahomans needed most, and in 1946 Farm Bureau members and their families lent a total of $35,000 to capitalize Oklahoma Farm Bureau Mutual Casualty Company. A companion property insurer, Farm Bureau Mutual Fire Insurance Company, followed, and in 1949 the two merged to form Oklahoma Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company. In 1957 it affiliated with what is now Farm Bureau Life Insurance Company to offer life coverage to members.

The company's financial strength has swung with Oklahoma's weather. AM Best downgraded the group several times from 2009 to 2011, then upgraded it in 2016, 2017 and 2019 and raised its issuer credit rating again in 2022. On December 1, 2020, OKFB began giving every active Farm Bureau member a free roadside service, Roadside Rescue. For background on how these organizations work, see the guide to Farm Bureau insurers.

Auto insurance coverage

OKFB's personal auto policy offers the coverages you would expect, built around Oklahoma's minimum liability limits of 25/50/25 ($25,000 per person and $50,000 per accident for injuries, $25,000 for property damage):

  • Liability for injuries and property damage you cause
  • Medical payments for you and passengers regardless of fault
  • Uninsured motorist coverage for injuries caused by a driver with no or too little insurance
  • Collision and comprehensive, including hail, theft, fire and vandalism
  • Additional transportation expenses, which pays limited rental costs after a covered loss and, if your car is disabled more than 50 miles from home, some travel expenses that may include meals and lodging (requires comprehensive or collision with OKFB)
  • Roadside assistance coverage for towing and on-site help such as fuel, jump-starts and tire changes

Farm vehicles can be insured on a separate farm auto policy, and the company also writes motorcycles, off-road vehicles and motorhomes.

Discounts and programs

OKFB lists a scholastic discount for full-time students with strong grades, a driver longevity credit for customers insured at least a year (based on both tenure and driving record), a defensive driving discount for completing a minimum six-hour accident prevention course approved by the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety (often offered through county Farm Bureaus), a multi-vehicle discount and companion discounts when you also have a homeowners or farm and ranch policy. You can pay in full, quarterly or by monthly bank draft. OKFB does not advertise a telematics or usage-based insurance program.

Members also get Roadside Rescue at no extra cost: towing up to 15 miles, jump-starts, lockout service, flat-tire changes and emergency fuel delivery (you pay for the fuel), up to $75 per service and three uses per membership year, anywhere in the U.S. and Canada. It is separate from the roadside assistance coverage you can add to an auto policy.

Claims

The 24-hour claims hotline is 877-632-2524. For questions about an open claim or non-emergencies, call the claims department at 877-240-9338 during business hours, use the online form, or contact your adjuster directly. If you do not need immediate help, you can start a claim report by logging into the My Insurance portal, which also shows your claims history. OKFB maintains claims offices around the state.

Ratings and reputation

On May 29, 2025, AM Best affirmed the Oklahoma Farm Bureau Group's financial strength rating of B++ (Good) and issuer credit rating of "bbb+", but revised the issuer credit rating outlook to negative. AM Best cited several years of underwriting losses driven by frequent, severe weather, inflation and higher reinsurance costs, and said the effectiveness of rate increases and re-underwriting remained to be seen. It assessed the balance sheet as very strong, with the strongest level of risk-adjusted capital, but called the business profile limited because the group writes in a single state with heavy property exposure. A B++ rating is below the A-range ratings held by most large auto insurers. OKFB is not among the 15 insurers ranked for the Central region, which includes Oklahoma, in J.D. Power's 2026 U.S. Auto Insurance Study; Shelter Insurance ranked highest there with 674 points.

Who it suits

OKFB Insurance suits Oklahomans who want a locally based insurer with an agent in every county, especially farm and rural households that can put vehicles, home and farm with one company and collect companion discounts. The free Roadside Rescue benefit adds value to the required membership fee. Drivers who prioritize a top-tier financial strength rating, a telematics discount or online self-service may prefer a national carrier, and anyone who moves out of Oklahoma will need a new insurer.

  • Strengths: Largest domestic insurer in Oklahoma, with offices in all 77 counties; free Roadside Rescue for members; driver longevity and defensive driving credits; balance sheet AM Best rates very strong.
  • Weaknesses: Oklahoma only, and Farm Bureau membership is required; B++ (Good) AM Best rating with a negative issuer credit outlook since May 2025; no telematics program; heavy property exposure to Oklahoma storm losses.
