Overview
Aspire General Insurance is a nonstandard auto insurer based in Rancho Cucamonga, California. It writes only personal auto insurance and sells it through independent brokers rather than directly, and as of October 2026 it said it writes business in California, Arizona and Texas. It says it specializes in affordable insurance with options for every type of driver and aims to make nonstandard auto insurance more accessible, emphasizing low down payments, flexible payment options and service in English and Spanish.
Aspire General Insurance Company ranked #40 among U.S. private passenger auto insurers by 2025 direct premiums written according to NAIC market share data, with $876.7 million in premiums and a 0.24% share. All of that premium comes from the three states where it operates, so it is far more visible to brokers and drivers there than its national share suggests.
Its website names two related entities: Aspire General Insurance Company (NAIC #15290), the insurer, and Aspire General Insurance Services, LLC, which holds California and Arizona licenses. Policies are sold through independent agents and brokerages, which Aspire calls producers and supports with its own quoting and service portal.
History
Aspire was founded in 2013 and is led by CEO Byron Storms, whose industry expertise the company credits for its model. It built its business around its own technology platform, called Apex, which brokers use to quote and service policies. In March 2025 it promoted Tyler Nicholson, with the company since 2016, to the new role of chief revenue and distribution officer, and promoted Myles Storms and Madison Storms to senior vice president roles in operations and human resources.
In August 2025 Aspire completed a debt financing agreement with Comvest Credit Partners, the direct lending arm of Comvest Partners, to strengthen its capital position and fund expansion. Comvest cited Aspire's record of profitability and growth and its use of technology, including the Apex platform and AI tools. In January 2026 the company announced a digital and AI voice system for reporting claims, and in August 2026 Coverager reported that Aspire had automated 44% of its outbound claims correspondence within three months of adopting software from Kyber.
Auto insurance coverage
Aspire writes personal auto policies only. Its website does not list coverages in detail; limits, deductibles and optional coverages are quoted through the broker and vary by state. It publishes a separate roadside assistance number for policyholders and runs a lienholder portal for lenders listed on policies covering financed cars. Each state sets its own minimum liability limits (see California, Arizona and Texas). Aspire's quote page also links to renters insurance offered through a third-party website.
Nonstandard insurers such as Aspire generally serve higher-risk drivers and others who do not fit standard carriers' guidelines. The guide to high-risk car insurance explains how to compare these policies on more than price, including the coverage limits and fees behind a low down payment.
Discounts and programs
Aspire does not publish a discount list or a telematics program on its website. Its pitch is affordability through low down payments, multiple payment plans and convenient payment options: online in the insured portal, by automated phone line, by text message ("Make Payment" to 53987) or by mail. Policyholders can also text "ID Card" to the same number to receive proof of insurance. Customer service is open weekdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Pacific.
Claims
Claims can be reported online at any hour, by chat with Aspire's virtual assistant, or by phone at 916-306-1831 during business hours. Aspire's claim form handles reports from policyholders, people involved in an accident with an Aspire policyholder and others. It asks for the policy number, the parties and vehicles involved, the date, time and location, the police report number, injuries and the area of damage. Aspire recommends a police report for claims involving bodily injury, vandalism, theft, fire or hit-and-run. Once a claim is submitted, an adjuster is assigned. Aspire says it has invested in automating first notice of loss and claims correspondence to speed up handling.
Ratings and reputation
Aspire tells brokers it is backed by financial strength "with the rating to prove it," but its website does not name the rating or the agency that issued it. Its consumer-facing material focuses on service and technology rather than third-party rankings. As a single-company group writing one line of business in three states, it is less diversified than multi-line national carriers. Drivers can check complaint records for Aspire General Insurance Company with the California Department of Insurance, the Arizona Department of Insurance and Financial Institutions or the Texas Department of Insurance.
Who it suits
Aspire suits drivers in California, Arizona or Texas who need affordable auto coverage, want a low down payment, prefer Spanish-language service, or like dealing with a local broker. It is less suited to drivers with clean records who may qualify for preferred pricing at larger carriers such as Mercury, to anyone who wants to buy online without an agent, and to households that want to bundle home and auto with one insurer.
- Strengths: Focus on nonstandard auto with low down payments and flexible payment options; English and Spanish service; text-message payments and ID cards; 24/7 online claim reporting.
- Weaknesses: Sold only in three states and only through brokers; no named financial strength rating, discount list or telematics program on its website; auto-only, so no multi-policy bundling; phone claims line keeps business hours.
