Overview

Missouri Farm Bureau Insurance is the insurance group affiliated with Missouri Farm Bureau, the state's largest farm organization. It ranked #83 among U.S. private passenger auto insurers by 2025 direct premiums written according to NAIC market share data, with $206.6 million in auto premium and a 0.06% national share under the NAIC group name Missouri Farm Bureau Group.

Like most state Farm Bureau insurers, it sells in one state only. Inside Missouri it is a meaningful competitor: the NAIC's 2025 state data rank Missouri Farm Bureau Group ninth among the state's private passenger auto writers, with about 3.3% of the market, in a field led by State Farm, Progressive, American Family and Shelter.

Property and casualty policies are written by Farm Bureau Town & Country Insurance Company of Missouri and Farm Bureau New Horizons (New Horizons Insurance Company of Missouri), with life insurance from Farm Bureau Life Insurance Company of Missouri. The company is headquartered in Jefferson City and sells through local agents working from more than 140 service centers, with an agent in every county. For how Farm Bureau insurers relate to the farm advocacy organizations that share their name, see Farm Bureau insurance explained.

History

Missouri Farm Bureau traces its roots to March 1915, when more than 300 farmers met in Slater, Missouri, and formed what the organization calls the first state Farm Bureau in the United States; the Pettis County Farm Bureau, created in 1912, was the first county-level group. Today the federation reports more than 157,000 member families across all 114 counties, with annual membership of $30.

The insurance operation was created, in the company's words, to fill a need: farmers and other rural Missourians needed very specific coverage that other insurers did not offer. It has since expanded to insure all Missourians, not only farmers, and now sells auto, home, farm, life and business insurance, plus health plans through a separate affiliate. The company has been recognized by Forbes in its America's Best Insurance Companies lists.

Auto insurance coverage

Missouri Farm Bureau's auto policy covers cars, trucks, SUVs and vans, and the same agents write RV, motorcycle, boat and commercial auto policies. Standard coverages are liability, medical payments, uninsured motorists, underinsured motorists, collision and "other than collision" (comprehensive).

Optional coverages listed on the company's auto page include:

  • Accidental death benefits and disability income
  • Auto loan/lease coverage
  • Delivery Driver Network coverage; if you use your car for delivery work, ask the agent exactly what it covers (see car insurance for delivery drivers)
  • Electronic equipment, miscellaneous equipment and loss to personal property
  • Transportation and travel expense
  • New vehicle replacement cost for a total loss
  • A reducing deductible, the company's version of a disappearing deductible

Emergency Road Service is offered as an add-on. It provides 24-hour towing and roadside assistance, delivery of gas, water or oil (you pay for the supplies), spare-tire installation, battery jump-starts or replacement (you pay for the battery) and lockout help. Service is requested through the main number, 800-922-4632.

Discounts and programs

The published auto discounts are specific about their size:

  • Multi-vehicle: up to 10% when two or more household vehicles are insured together.
  • Total account: up to 8.5% when auto is combined with qualifying home, farm, ranch or commercial property coverage (see bundling home and auto).
  • Good student: up to 20% for full-time students aged 16 to 24 with qualifying grades.
  • Accident-free: up to 20% for a clean record; new customers start at 10% if they had continuous prior coverage.
  • Preferred driver: for drivers 21 and older with no at-fault accidents in five years and no violations in three years.
  • Passive restraint (factory airbags), occupational (by qualifying occupation) and E85/hybrid (up to 5%).

Policyholders are also enrolled automatically in Missouri Rewards (MORE), a points program for customers with auto, home or farm policies. Points can be redeemed for agricultural products and services, loss-prevention products, Missouri Farm Bureau membership or charitable donations.

No telematics or usage-based program is offered on the company's site.

Claims

Claims can be reported by phone at 800-922-4632 or online through the company's claims center. Missouri Farm Bureau describes a four-step process: you report the claim, a representative makes initial contact within 24 hours, the representative helps you document the loss, and the claim is concluded with a fair assessment. Your local agent can also help you report and follow a claim. The site does not describe a direct repair network, photo estimates or a claims app.

Ratings and reputation

The company's About page lists AM Best ratings of A- (Excellent) for Farm Bureau Town & Country and Farm Bureau New Horizons, and A- (Excellent) for Farm Bureau Life Insurance Company of Missouri, as displayed in October 2026. See how AM Best ratings work.

Missouri Farm Bureau is not among the regional leaders named in J.D. Power's 2026 U.S. Auto Insurance Study; the Central region was led by Shelter Insurance for a sixth consecutive year. Missouri drivers can check complaint records through the NAIC's consumer insurance search or the Missouri Department of Commerce and Insurance.

Who it suits

Missouri Farm Bureau suits Missouri households that want a nearby agent, especially in rural areas where national carriers may have few offices, and that can combine auto with home, farm or life coverage for the total account discount. Its discount schedule is transparent and generous for clean-record and student drivers. It does not suit people who move out of state or who want app-based self-service and driving-data pricing.

  • Strengths: An agent in every Missouri county and more than 140 service centers; clearly sized discounts (up to 20% for good students and accident-free drivers); add-ons such as reducing deductible, new vehicle replacement and delivery driver coverage; A- (Excellent) AM Best ratings.
  • Weaknesses: Sold only in Missouri; no telematics program; claims tools are mostly phone and agent based; ninth in its own state's auto market, well behind State Farm and Progressive.
