Overview

Warrior Invictus Holding Company is not a name most drivers will recognize, because none of its policies carry it. It is the parent of a small family of auto insurers and agencies that market together as the Warrior Insurance Network (WIN), based in Bedford Park, Illinois, just southwest of Chicago. The group ranked #63 among U.S. private passenger auto insurers by 2025 direct premiums written according to NAIC market share data, with $330.1 million, or 0.09% of the national market.

The names on actual policies and ID cards are those of WIN's member companies:

  • First Chicago Insurance Company (FCIC), the largest carrier, writing personal auto (preferred and standard programs), commercial auto, public transportation (taxi, livery, paratransit and rideshare) and general liability.
  • United Security Insurance Company (USIC), a personal auto carrier.
  • West Virginia National Auto Insurance Company, a nonstandard auto carrier in Morgantown, West Virginia.
  • Texas Ranger MGA and Lonestar MGA, managing general agencies that sell personal auto programs in Texas.

WIN describes itself as a marketing organization that coordinates branding and service for these companies and sells only through independent agents. It says its members distribute personal auto and commercial lines in 15 states and are licensed in 27. Customer portals on the carriers' websites reference personal auto policies in Arizona, Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, West Virginia and Wisconsin. Jim Hallberg is CEO and president of WIN.

History

First Chicago Insurance Company traces its roots to 1920, when it was founded to serve Chicago's ice producers; WIN's 2024 brochure notes that it had recently celebrated its 100th anniversary. It has since evolved into a multi-line carrier offering personal auto, commercial auto, public transportation and general liability coverage.

United Security dates to 1973, when it began as United Security Life Insurance Company of Illinois. It later became United Security Life and Health, then United Security Health & Casualty in 2015, and finally United Security Insurance Company in 2023, its 50th anniversary, reflecting its shift to personal auto. At that time it was licensed in Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Oklahoma and Texas and planned to enter Arizona in 2024.

West Virginia National, founded in 1998 and one of the oldest auto carriers domiciled in West Virginia, joined the network in early 2024. WIN said the deal extended it into the Mid-Atlantic and that it planned a regional office in West Virginia and an eventual move into Virginia. Lonestar MGA was created in 2004 and Texas Ranger MGA in 2018. According to a 2024 WIN brochure, products in the network are also written by Texas county mutual insurers Home State County Mutual and Old American County, the kind of arrangement explained in county mutuals and fronting carriers.

Auto insurance coverage

First Chicago's personal auto policy includes bodily injury and property damage liability, medical payments, uninsured and underinsured motorist bodily injury, uninsured motorist property damage, and collision and comprehensive. Rental reimbursement and towing and labor are available when comprehensive is on the policy. FCIC also sells add-ons aimed at its customer base: Contents Plus renters coverage, emergency roadside assistance, and transportation network coverage for drivers who work for rideshare companies; see rideshare insurance.

United Security markets standard personal auto with "unique endorsements," West Virginia National sells a nonstandard product, and Texas Ranger's program values physical damage on what the car is worth today rather than its original value.

Discounts and programs

First Chicago lists an unusually long discount menu, with availability depending on state and plan. It includes advance issue, anti-theft, broad form named driver, college graduate, defensive driver, foreign license, good student, good driving record, homeowner, in-agency transfer, liability only, multi-car, non-owner, paid in full, prior insurance, restricted endorsement, SR-22, renewal, vehicle make and model, and vehicle/home credit discounts. Several of these, such as foreign license, SR-22 and non-owner, are typical of carriers that serve drivers outside the preferred market. No telematics program is advertised.

Claims

First Chicago takes claims at 708-552-4400, staffed Monday through Thursday 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Central; after hours you can submit an online Auto Accident Form. United Security and West Virginia National have claim pages on their own sites. The shared Warrior Mobile app handles claim reporting, roadside assistance requests, payments and account access across the network.

Ratings and reputation

The WIN companies' websites do not cite an AM Best financial strength rating, and Demotech's website lists First Chicago Insurance Co. as not rated. Without a published rating, shoppers have less independent information on financial strength than with larger carriers; AM Best ratings explained covers why that matters. None of the WIN brands appears in the regional rankings of J.D. Power's 2026 U.S. Auto Insurance Study (June 2026).

The network is investing in systems: its 2024 brochure describes a ten-year technology program, and West Virginia National was moving to Guidewire's InsuranceNow platform after joining.

Who it suits

The Warrior companies suit drivers in their states who shop through an independent agent and need flexible underwriting, for example a recent arrival with a foreign license, a driver who needs an SR-22, or a household that wants a named-driver policy. Customers who want a nationally known brand, published financial ratings, home-and-auto bundling with the same company or a fully online buying process will find better fits elsewhere.

  • Strengths: Long discount list including foreign-license and SR-22 discounts; rideshare and roadside add-ons; carriers with long local histories; shared mobile app.
  • Weaknesses: No published AM Best rating; First Chicago's claim line is not staffed overnight or on Sundays; sold only through agents; brand structure (holding company, network, several carriers and MGAs) can be confusing.
